Hammered Silver

Hammered Silver Texture

Texture and dimension created by hand-hammering 925 sterling silver on a steel anvil — a signature of artisan-feel modern jewelry.

In Short

Hammered finishes give modern silver jewelry a tactile, handcrafted character that machine-stamped pieces simply cannot reproduce. The texture catches light at every angle and instantly signals artisan quality at retail.

How Hammered Texture Is Made

The artisan places the partially-finished piece on a steel anvil and strikes it repeatedly with a small steel hammer, using different head shapes (ball-pein, cross-pein, planishing) to create different texture patterns. Light strikes give a delicate stippled effect; heavier strikes create deeper dimples.

Where Hammered Works Best

Hammered finishes look strongest on broad flat surfaces — bangles, cuff bracelets, wide rings, and disc pendants. The technique pairs well with both polished and oxidized finishes, and is a staple of our nature-inspired and bohemian collections.
